Maureen Gannon

The 2023 Lacy Award Lecture will be given by Dr. Maureen Gannon, PhD, Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University. The Lacy Medal Award is the highest award of the Midwest Islet Club and given annually to honor highly meritorious career achievement in the field of islet biology. Research in the Gannon lab focuses on transcription factors and signaling pathways that regulate the generation, maintenance, and expansion of pancreatic beta cell mass. The Gannon laboratory has been funded by the NIH, JDRF, ADA, and VA. Dr. Gannon has received many numerous awards including the 2022 Lois Jovanovic Award Transformative Woman in Diabetes Award from the American Diabetes Association. https://medsites.vumc.org/gannonlab/gannon-lab-home

            

robert sorenson

At the MIC meeting we will honor Dr. Robert Sorenson, PhD, Professor Emeritus, University of Minnesota and present him a lifetime achievement award for his outstanding contribution to the study of diabetes and islet biology during pregnancy. This award recognizes the most fundamental, cumulative, and influential research contribution in the field of islet biology. We will award a “Young Investigator Award” under his name.
